Issam El Rassi

Paediatric Surgeon

Dr El Rassi is the Director of Congenital Cardiac Surgery at the Children’s Heart Center - The American University of Beirut.
He earned his medical degree from Saint-Joseph University and specialised in Cardiac Surgery between Necker Children’s Hospital in Paris and the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne.

Dr El-Rassi earns worldwide recognition as one of the leading Pediatric and Congenital Heart Surgeons in Lebanon and the middle-East. He has significant contributions to the Children’s Heart Center at AUBMC, including the recruitment of patients from the entire region, the establishment of the Neonatal and Pediatric ECMO program, and the establishment of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Program.
Dr El-Rassi is a member of the American and the European Societies of Cardio-Thoracic Surgery (STS & EACTS). He pioneered innovative research in the field of Congenital Heart Disease, with more than 70 publications.

Dr El-Rassi has an impressive track record in being actively involved in humanitarian activities related to congenital heart disease, through the Lebanese Associations “Braveheart” and “Heartbeat-La Chaine de l’Espoir”, and the International “Gift-of-Life”. He is one of the major actors, along with the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) to care for the Syrian Refugees with congenital heart disease within the Lebanese borders.
