Dr Despina Demopoulous
Dr Despina Demopoulos is a paediatric intensivist currently heading Paediatrics and the PICU at the Wits Donald Gordon Medical Centre.
She has previously worked at the paediatric intensive care unit at Nelson Mandela Children’s Hospital, Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital in Soweto, Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital, Rahima Moosa Mother and Child Hospital, Klerksdorp Hospital and Queen Mary’s Hospital for Sick Children in London, United Kingdom. She was director of the PICU Clinton and Union Hospitals in Johannesburg.
She received her MMed in Paediatrics on HIV Vasculopathy in Children. Her other interests include paediatric sepsis, trauma, burns and paediatric pain.
She has been involved in research regarding training of paediatricians in South Africa and assisted with facilitating the South African Paediatric Registrars Association. She is the secretary of the South African Paediatric Association Executive Committee and currently sits on the EXCO panel.
