Anja is a Clinical Pharmacist at one of South Africa’s largest private hospitals.
Anja introduced therapeutic drug monitoring at this hospital in 2015, mostly in neonates and paediatrics.
She was later appointed as the Clinical Pharmacist for all ICU patients and therefore the programme extended to adult patients as well.
Anja is the team leader of antimicrobial stewardship and works closely with a team of intensivists, pathologists and microbiologists.
Being active in the ICU and participating in bedside rounds and discussions on a daily basis, she soon realised that the ECMO patients have different requirements with regards to dosing of medication.
Anja forms part of the ELSO accredited ECMO Centre at Unitas Hospital under supervision of Dr Marlice van Dyk.
Anja strives to publish and present relevant case and literature studies, the effect of specific illnesses on the pharmacokinetics of medication and how to overcome these challenges.
