Agneta Geldenhuys

Cardiothoracic Surgeon

Dr Agneta Geldenhuys is a Cardiothoracic Surgeon with a specific interest in all aspects of anti-failure surgery as well as mechanical support in the bigger context of end-stage cardiorespiratory failure.
She obtained her MBChB degree from Stellenbosch University and then continued to specialise in cardiothoracic surgery at the University of Cape Town, obtaining both MMed (Cardiothor Surg) and FC (Cardio) SA degrees.

She developed a special interest in ECMO during her work at Milpark Hospital in Johannesburg where she was responsible for the surgical and intensive care management of the ECMO program as well as the long-distance retrieval and transport of patients on ECMO.
She is currently working as a member of the heart and lung transplant and ECMO team in The Alfred Hospital in Melbourne which serves as Australia’s busiest heart and lung transplant and ECMO unit.
