RCA (Respiratory Care Africa Pty Ltd) is a previously privately held company established in 1998. In June 2014 RCA was acquired by Ascendis Health, a JSE listed health and care brands company operating in plant, animal and human health. RCA, together with three other companies now forms part of the Ascendis Medical division.


Historically we focused on the areas of Critical Care, Neonatology and Pulmonary Lung Function Testing and supplied globally branded medical devices and associated surgical consumables both to state and privately-owned hospitals and medical facilities. Over the last 21 years, we have established ourselves as market leaders in these areas and continue to have dedicated focused teams servicing our customers with these products.


In the last 12 years, RCA has established a growing business and reputation for supplying high-quality medical devices for other specialist area and have experienced significant growth in the areas of anaesthetics, patient monitoring, ultrasound and theatre tables as well as surgical equipment in the form of pendant systems and theatre lights.


Today, RCA can offer complete solutions for the Operating Theatre, all ICUs, Trauma units, Maternity, General Wards and Radiology and we employ more than 120 people to continue to provide divisionalised dedicated focus, technical and clinical support to our growing customer base. A team of qualified and experienced application specialists supports every division to ensure our clients are secure in their knowledge of the products and receive ongoing support many years after purchasing our products.

In addition to our product divisions, RCA has a technical department servicing all RCA supplied equipment as well as clinical support department responsible for training and 24/7 clinical support.


During our history, RCA has received more than 20 excellence awards, the most significant of which is the Critical Care Society of Southern Africa floating trophy in 2014, 2016, 2018 and 2019.


We have also been awarded a Level 2 B-BBEE rating and are continuously looking for new ways to invest in the future of South Africa by supporting human resource programs for our previously disadvantaged employees as well as supporting specific community upliftment projects.
